- Noms of Hong Kong: GumJeng -
Hong Kong’s has a range of matcha desserts (not complaining though!). My all time favourite is Via Tokyo but I decided to try Gum Jeng this time around.
I ordered their special; ice cream (you can choose between matcha, hojicha, and tofu) in between matcha melon pan. I was really excited about this, because I love matcha melon pan, they are usually so light and fluffy and paired with ice cream is even better. However, I must say, I was quite disappointed in this. The matcha melon pan was so dense, it didn’t even resemble the texture of a bun. I paired the melon pan with hojicha ice cream, which was good but the flavour of the tea could’ve definitely been stronger. 5/10

We also tried the ice cream combo (matcha and hojicha ice cream) with shaved ice. This was again medicore, flavour of the matcha and hojicha could’ve been stronger but the syrup with the ice was way too sweet. In addition, there wasn’t enough red beans and mochi. Towards the end, it was more like just eating sugared ice with ice cream. 5.5/10
