- Crispy Falafel Patties -

So I’m trying to go gluten free for a while, I’ve done it before for about 2 weeks and I’ve noticed that I was significantly less bloated. I’m not sure if I’m gluten intolerant but I do like to go gluten free occasionally. However, it’s a lot harder than it looks, I can hardly eat out unless I ensure they have gluten free options and I know what is exactly in the dish.

I love crispy food especially when coated with panko, which is usually for foods, such as tonkatsu. I prefer this over fries or food coated with normal breadcrumbs because it’s crispier and tastes significantly less oily. It’s different from breadcrumbs because panko is made from crust free bread, which results in large flakes that gives the food a crispy coating. It also tends to stay crispier than normal breadcrumbs as it doesn’t absorb as much oil, which explains why it tastes less oily as well.

I haven’t seen gluten free breadcrumbs in London, so I decided to use the soya protein mince as a replacement. It’s large, flaky, and doesn’t really absorb oil as well. And it turned out so well! It works just like breadcrumbs and adds a ton of protein. This is a protein packed patty and it’s so easy to make, not to mention its vegan as well. If you’re gluten intolerant or you like to go gluten free, what are your tips and tricks! Let me know!

Gluten free, vegan

Recipe:

Makes about 10-12 patties (Depends on how big they are)

Ingredients:

  • 240g of Cooked Chickpeas

  • 2tbs of Rice Flour

  • 2-3tbs of Olive oil

  • Garlic

  • Chipotle

  • Mint

  • Black pepper

  • Dry Soya Protein Mince

  • Spinach

  1. Season the cooked chickpeas with rice flour, garlic, chipotle, mint, and black pepper.

  2. Add the olive oil, about 2-3tbs of olive oil. The more oil you add the more moist the patties become. If it becomes too moist, you add more rice flour. However, you want the patties to be slightly moist so that the soya mice will stick to the patties

  3. Season the soya mince with a bit of salt and pepper.

  4. Coat the patties with the soya mince.

  5. Pan fry, flip and make it as crispy as you want!
