- Noms of Hong Kong (Vegetarian): Life Cafe Restaurant and Bar -

It’s typhoon 3 and yellow rainstorm now, so what better to do then write a blog post? :P I haven’t written for a while, been busy revising for the GRE .. But I can’t wait to do this review on this vegetarian café in Central! Not only that but I love their food so much to the point where I went twice in the same day. Yep, my first time visiting the cafe for lunch and then once again for dinner with my boyfriend. The food was just that good.

From outside you can’t tell how spacious this café is; the ground floor is quite small, which includes a display showing all their desserts and a selection of healthy vegan snacks. The second floor has a bar and a number of tables that were completely full during lunch. By night, all the tables were reserved which we had to give back the table within an hour and we got there at 6. The atmosphere was also very romantic, with a candle on each table. My personal favourite, however, was the rooftop. It was spacious, quiet, cool, and relaxing that contrasted with the loud, fast paced business men/women on the second floor. I managed to study there as well and honestly, I would’ve stayed there the whole day if they didn’t close the rooftop at 2:45pm…

Okay, to the food!! There was so MANY choices and I wanted them all. I’m a pretty indecisive person but I swear I was staring at the menu for 20mins deciding between 5 different mains or just going for the set lunch ($128 for a starter, main, coffee/tea, and a cookie. A steal!!). After much consideration, I decided to go for the gluten free ‘Spicy Tempeh Burger’ and a ‘Reanimator’.

Main: 'Spicy Tempeh Burger' (crispy tempeh, tomato, rocket, pickled red onions, jalapeno peppers, BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese, tofu mayo which came with sweet potato fries and mixed baby greens).

Drink: 'Reanimator' (Apple, Lemon and Ginger)

The spicy tempeh burger had crispy tempeh, tomato, rocket, pickled red onions, jalapeno peppers, BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese, tofu mayo which came with sweet potato fries and mixed baby greens. The cheese, jalapeno pepper, pickled red onions, and the tempeh came perfectly togeather, slightly cheesy, slightly spicy and not dry at all. Amazing. The salad was also delicious, it wasn’t bland but had some lemon squeezed over it that it made light and complemented the burger really well. And the sweet potato fries. Omg. Nice, hot, and crispy. So good.

The ‘Reanimator’ consists of apple, lemon, and ginger. So refreshing and I loved that the ginger taste wasn’t overpowering.

Okay to what we had for dinner, and I’m so sorry this post is so long. But it an indication of how many good characteristics there are of this café. My boyfriend got the ‘Life Organic Burger’ that was made with a organic brown rice and vegetable patty, tomato, rocket, tofu bacon, red onion and tofunaise served with sweet potato fries and mixed baby greens.

Main: 'Life Organic Burger' (organic brown rice and vegetable patty, tomato, rocket, tofu bacon, red onion and tofunaise served with sweet potato fries and mixed baby greens.)

In my opinion, I think the ‘spicy tempeh burger’ was better, the ‘life organic burger’ was slightly bland but that may be because I prefer spicy food in general anyways :P. However, I loved the tofu bacon. So good.

I got the ‘Life Salad’, mixed baby greens, grated carrot and beetroot, sprouted mung beans, organic chickpea hummus, mixed nuts and seeds, nutritional yeast, fresh herb dressing and Life organic flaxseed crackers. Best salad ever. The dressing was amazing, It was slightly cheesy and the hummus with the crackers, perfect combination. Even though it’s a salad, it was filling, satisfying, and I wouldn’t like to get my greens any other way.

Salad: 'Life Salad' (mixed baby greens, grated carrot and beetroot, sprouted mung beans, organic chickpea hummus, mixed nuts and seeds, nutritional yeast, fresh herb dressing and Life organic flaxseed crackers).

Definitely coming back here again. Perhaps twice in a day again :P. Amazing food, atmosphere and worth every penny.
